February 18, Poem #35 The Package

The Package
By Melody Beerbower

I tried to send a package.
I marked it 'handle with care'
But when the box arrived,
It looked rather worse for wear.

When the battered package
Upon the porch was found.
I saw they'd placed the down side up
And the upside down.

To tell all that was the matter
I only can begin,
For they shipped the inside out
And the outside they shipped in.

February 17, Poem #34

I am tired and need some sleep.
My body is sore and my lips are too.
So, I'm going to bed
Without further adieu.

February 16, Poem #33

Okay, give me a break. I was on the retreat. I wrote this jingle for one of our plays.

When your bladder fails
Use Prevail!

Yeah...you might not want to ask...

February 15, Poem #32 A Toast For Mercy

A Toast For Mercy on Her Birthday
By Melody Beerbower

Here's to Mercy,
On this day of her birth.
May your days be filled with happiness,
Your house full of mirth.
Here is to red,
The color of that substance
Which is thicker than water-
At least at first glance.
Here is to black,
The color that comes after red
It's also for night,
When you should be in bed.
Here's to the future,
May you meet a nice grum,
May you never choke on your drink,
Or swallow your gum.
Here's to a 'good afternoon'.
May your wishes come true,
And here's to you never becoming
A you-know-who.
Here's to hoping
You have Happy Birthday
And may your cake of life
Have a long time to stay.

February 14, Poem #31 English Teacher

Before you read this poem, I must point out that I did not have a specific English teacher in mind when I wrote it.

English Teacher
By Melody Beerbower, with special dedication to Winston Churchill from whom I stole a quote.

I had an English teacher.
She was very strict.
When we used poor grammar,
Off her it would tick.

One day she had enough,
And made us up to line.
She gave to us a talking
About grammar points so fine.

"There are important things,
About which we must talk."
Out flew her favorite weapon-
A white and gritty piece of chalk.

"When you write a sentence,
You must write it neatly.
When it's time to end one,
You must end it completely."

"That is why you must never, never
Under ANY circumstance,
End a sentence with a PREPOSITION
Believe me, this is not that advanced."

"Oh the things with which you struggle,
I don't know from where you get it.
If you think that this is something
You can get away with, forget it."

"At what are you laughing?
At what are you staring?
Have you no appreciation
For the wisdom I am sharing?"

"Now, down sit! Up look!
Pay attention to me!
I'm not done with you yet.
This is something to which I must see."

"This shall go on no longer.
Down I am putting my foot.
This is the kind of nonsense
Up with which I shall not put!"

"Every Kindergartener should know this.
I think down things they are dumbing.
It makes me start to wonder
To what is this world coming?"

Yep, that was my English teacher.
We loved her in spite of all that.
And sometimes I find myself wondering
Where in the world she is at.

February 13, 2013 Runny Nose

Runny Nose
By Melody Beerbower

Oh,
Why is
My nose runny?
Does it think it funny
To slide, dawdle, and drip
Slowly down my upper lip.
No matter how I blow
It will not go
Away.

February 12, Poem # 30 Midnight Prowler

Midnight Prowler
By Melody Beerbower, to be read in a soft, deep voice and with the lights turned down low.

A warm soft breeze
   Drifting, drifting
As I stare out the window
   Lis'ning, lis'ning
A sudden creak
A sudden sqwak
   A shifting shadow
   A broken lock
A red light glows
And what just happened
Nobody knows...

February 11, Poem # 29 Have You Heard?

Have You Heard?
By Melody Beerbower

Have you heard
What occurred
When I asked a bird
To have a word?
Be assured,
It was quit absurd
To hear a bird
Call me a nerd.

February 10, Miss #5

I'm getting very bad at this...

February 9, Poem # 28 Darlin' Be My Valentine

Darlin' Be My Valentine
By Melody Beerbower (I hope you can guess what tune it goes to.)

Oh my Darlin', Oh my Darlin'
Will you be my Valentine?
Promise I'll Love you forever
If you promise you'll be mine.

February 8, Poem # 27 Miss Muffet and Jack Horner

Miss Muffet and Jack Horner
By Melody Beerbower

There once was a girl named Miss Muffet
Who sat all day on her tuffet.
No one ever sat beside her,
Except the occasional spider
She really had to rough it.

There once was a boy named Jack Horner
Who spent most of his time in the corner.
He liked Christmas pies,
And Miss Muffet's eyes
If fact, he really adored her.

With little Miss Muffet away,
Jack sat on her tuffet to play.
She was shock to learn
Upon her return
That he was sitting in her whey.

Said Miss Muffet a little unkind
"I say! Young man, do you mind?
On sitting yourself in this seat,
You sat on the food I would eat,
Were it not spread all over behind."

Jack jumped up when he heard,
Exclaiming, "Oh my word!"
"That I'd be in your way
When I sat down to play,
The thought to me never occurred."

February 7, Poem # 26 Winter is Leaving

Winter is Leaving
By Melody Beerbower

I hear the rain tapping at the window.
It makes me kind of sad,
For it's washing away the snow,
And all the fun I had.

Snowman melting in the yard.
Soggy ground that once was hard.
Sled abandoned in the grass,
Hoping somehow the snow will last.

I smell faint traces of spring in the air.
It makes me sort of glad.
Barefoot days will soon be here.
It can't be all that bad!

The funny thing is, the day after I wrote this poem it snowed almost an inch.

Go figure.

February 6, Poem # 26

This is what you do when your sister repeatedly leaves her Facebook logged in.

Ha, ha All day
With Jeannette away
When the cat is gone
The mice will play.

February 5, Poem # 24 Cheese

Cheese
By Melody Beerbower, thanks to Mercy for suggesting the topic.

May I have some cheese,
Please?
It tastes as smooth as a cloud
As light a breeze
As creamy as pudding
And as tasty as

Well...

Cheese.

February 4, Poem #23 What should I eat for dinner?

What should I eat for dinner?
By Melody Beerbower, with thanks to Rebekah for the amazing idea.

What should I eat for dinner?
I feel I am getting thinner
From lack of nourishment.
I need something yummy
To fill up my tummy,
But I don't know where all the food went.

February 2&3, Misses 3 & 4

Unfortunately I cannot find any poems with the dates February 2 or 3rd scribbled on them, so I am forced to admit that I have failed once again, bring the number up to a total of four misses. I feel the shame pressing down on me. Perhaps I should write all my poems for this in one place, so I don't have to hunt for them all over.

February 1, Poem #22

Time got away from me this day, so I just wrote a short but heartfelt poem to a good friend of mine who got married.

What a beautiful day,
I just want to say
Congratulations Eric and Beth,
On your wedding day!

January 31, Poem #21 The Clock is Ticking

This is weird poem. I guess I must have been trying to write about some mystery or something. I think I failed rather miserably.

The Clock is Ticking
By Melody Beerbower

The clock is ticking.
Time flies by.
Second hands clicking.
Minutes run dry.

The job must be done,
Or people will die.
The man's on the run,
But, don't worry,
They'll find the guy.

January 30, Poem #20 The Wind

This poem was written off my story, The Gossiping Wind.

TheWind
By Melody Beerbower

I am the wind.
That is my name;
A restless spirit
You cannot tame

I am the wind.
No rules bind me.
I go where I please
Unfettered and free.

I am the wind.
I have power.
Trees quake at my coming,
Even buildings cower.

I am the wind.
I can be still:
A cool, silent stream
Boding no ill.

I am the wind.
I am a current of air.
I am nothing,
And yet I am there.

For I am
       the wind...

January 29, Poem # 19

Shifting clouds
Pale lights
A chill crawls up my back
I feel a presence behind me
Preparing to attack

Spinning around
Heart thumps
Releaved to find
It is nothing but
My over active mind.
